Elafonisi beach

Elafonisi beach is actually an oblong peninsula which often breaks in two parts when the water rises, giving the visitor the impression that he is on an exotic island. It is a Natura 2000 protected area where white sand Lillys (Sea daffodils) bloom and Juniper trees (Oxycedrus Macrocarpa) grow. The endangered loggerhead sea turtle finds shelter in the area too. Elafonisi is known for its exotic landscape of white sand and turquoise waters which become pinkish in many places, taking its color from millions of shattered seashells. It is worth to mention that the sea water doesn’t exceed 1m depth, creating an ideal lagoon for children.

Agia Sofia cave

One of the most impressive caves in Chania is the Agia Sofia cave which is located approximately 50 km south of Chania city and in 400 meters altitude. Its easily accessible from the street be climbing 150 stairs/ In the inside of the cave there are columns of stalagmites (deposits that project upward from the ground of the cave) and stalactites (deposits which hang down the ceiling of the cave).

Elos village

The tiny, traditional village of Elos is located 57 km southwest of Chania Town and 23 km south from Kissamos on the West part of Crete. Elos is situated at an altitude of 560 meters above sea level. It is known for its natural beauty, as it is surrounded by lush greenery and natural water sources. You will find the largest number of chestnut trees on the island, which forms picturesque scenery.

In the village of Elos you can find an old Turkish aqueduct, the remains of an old mill and the Byzantine church of Agios Ioannis, which dates from the 14th century. Inside the church are well preserved frescoes.
