1. Culture

Crete due to its key strategic position has been a crossover of people and civilisations, a target of conquerors and an important centre  for Minoans, Mycenaeans, Ottomans, Arabs and Venetians who left an important cultural legacy behind. 2. Beaches

The huge coastline of the island hosts countless beaches, the majority of which are sandy. In Chania area some of the most distinctive are Balos, Falasarna and Elafonisi. At Heraklion there is Amnisos, Agia Pelagia, Kali Limenes, Malia, Amoudara and Historical Matala. If you go to  Rethymno don’t miss visiting the special beaches of Triopetra, Agios Paulos, Ligres and Preveli.

Gavdos the southern point of Europe with the heavenly beaches of Sarakiniko, Ai Gianis, Pyrgos, Potamos and Tripiti the cedar forests and the small paths are there for you to discover and have an unforgettable travelling experience. The island of Chrysi is also impressive with turquoise waters, white sand and countless seashells.

6.Hiking

If you are a hiking lover then Crete is the perfect place for you. The E4 European walking Path in Crete is approximately 500 km. It begins at Kastelli-Kissamos in the west and ends at Kato Zakros in the east. There is a choice between an alpine section and a coastal section. Whatever you may choose the beautiful scenery will be breathtaking.

7.Traditional villages

Mostly high altitude settlements where folkways and traditions are maintained unchanged until today and where you can get familiar with the authentic cretan culture. Archanes, Zaros, Vamos, Chora Sfakion, Anogeia, Aksos and Margarines… This is where the pure heart of the island beats.
